Just waiting on Andrew J.(aaj94) to pick a Faction ...

House Harkonnen or House Corrino

... before we go through the Faction Order setup.

House Atreides is first in line for the Faction Order,
maybe give some thought on where u would like to
place ur troops to move things along?

Once all players have declared the troop positions, I'll
create a new gameboard to begin Round One! ... Walts

It's also worth noting that the rules state that when you're rolling dice behind the screen, all other dice get put to the side.

....but the rules say that all dice remain hidden until submitted, so I assume that putting them to the side does not involve putting the dice you are not rolling in front of your shield.

Indeed. I presume you're right though the rules don't specifically say that. But as you said, other players should only see dice you are submitting.

Sorry y'all, I don't know if I'll be able to join this one. Got assigned a huge project at work so I might not have much free browsing time available to me. Sorry to flake out!

That’s sad, but that happens. =) Keep it up, and we’ll be glad to play against you next time!

Guess we need a new partner in plans within plans.

Why all those "Fascist" and not "Nazist" words?

Shouldn't the game be titled "Secret Mussolini"?

Because in the United States, we don't normally differentiate between the Italian Fascists and Germany National Socialists, referring to both as just Fascists.

Accurate? Probably not. But it's a little late to change it now. Sorry.

Secret Hitler was probably chosen due to the worldwide infamy of that individual. More folks know about him, and Mussolini is regarded as an "also participated" in WW2 by many, especially among my American peers.

As to the terminology, National Socialism is hardly distinguishable from Fascism. In fact, component elements of the definition of "fascism" include both "nationalism" and "socialism". For all intents and purposes, they are synonymous.

For further study on the political ideology Hitler espoused, I found this article clarifying: http://spartacus-educational.com/GERfascist.htm

You should check out Murderer's Row. I think it is pretty similar to Elevenses for one.

Less similar but still simple and with card interactions would be The Shooting Party.

Both of these, and you might look at Muses too.

Thread: Castle Itter:: Variants:: Setup variants

When setting up Castle Itter, instead of placing 1 Riflemen counter on each starting position, roll 1 die for positions 2 - 6. If the die roll is equal to or higher than the starting position number, place 1 Scouts counter instead of the Riflemen counter. On positions 7 - 12, roll 2 dice. If the die roll is equal to or higher than the starting position number, place 1 Scouts counter instead of the Riflemen counter.

Alternatively, to provide a little "fog of war", select 11 Riflemen and 11 Scouts, place them face down and shuffle them, and randomly select 11 and place them on the starting positions without revealing them. Reveal them after placing the first 5 Defenders and return the remaining Scouts and Riflemen counters to the supply.

I haven't tested these variants yet but it should increase the difficulty and may force a player to adjust their tactics.

When I was working on the html version of the game, I had toyed with the idea of a Stargate SG-1 version of the game. It would work quite well. In addition the the off world adventures, there would also be personel at the base and some Earthside events that would happen, based on a score on how well you were doing against whatever main enemy you were fighting against.

Never got around to developing it further though.

Well, I ain't going to do it. My attention wanders after a couple of weeks, so I'd never finish it anyway.

Day 50, Lagos. Gods can play tricks on you

by Alexandre Correia

Today was pizza day. We invited Joel and his eldest daughter to help Ana make the dough, sauce, chop, spread, etc. So while the girls hit the dough, with the occasional help from the dads, me and Joel hit the games.

Joel was eager for some Agricola rematch. But I had my share of experiences playing medium-euros while being interrupted, by two and three year old kids every 5 minutes. Not a very immersive boardgaming experience. So I pushed for a old classic of ours, 7 Wonders: Duel with the Pantheon expansion.

:star::star::star:

First age went super fast. Most of the right moves were obvious for both of us. I did made the mistake of letting Joel choosing 4 of the 6 slots for the Gods. I had some solid city foundation. But no blue civilian buildings. Joel was lacking enough resources and money to push for the wonders in the 2nd age. But had started to gain military and civilian (points) advantage.

Second age saw Joel pushing even further for military and civilian buildings. Until it came down to the last 6 cards of the age. Both of us wanted the last science card and added progress bonus token. So we did the counting and in shared silent saw that I was getting it. In one swoop both of us stretched our money to buy all the Gods and switch the order of play in the process. I stretched too much. I got the card yes. But the resulting battle for scientific progress left me bankrupt and without a double stone resource card (and only source for stone!) that Joel stole from me. Thank you Baal.

Third age was a disgrace. 80% of my picks were to discard for money to buy stone on military buildings and fend the opposing city assault. I got blinded in fear of the army at the gates. Joel seize the moment of the distraction and capitalize on the civilian buildings. He got 39 points just on those! I struggled to reach 44 points at the end of the game.

I love how this game can flip in a instant if you're not completely devoted in your plays.

:star::star::star:

Before they left, we squeezed a game of Limes. It was Joel's first time playing but the game is pretty simple. We got balanced scores in this one. 37 for him and 38 for me. In the end I didn't felt any difference in the game by playing it at the two player count. It's the same experience as playing it solo.

:star::star::star:

Late at night I crafted the 2017 9-Card Nanogames I had printed in the hopes I would try them, but that didn't happen in the end. Just glad I moved another step forward in this gaming project. It's slow going at the times.

What I did managed was to play two games of Aquaducts. Still didn't beat the difficult setting. But I still enjoy a lot this nice solo city building PnP game. Great value!

See you tomorrow and thanks for reading.
