Hi Sebastian,
1) The card was meant to break the rule about stealing only when matching (Empire/Agent). But it should have been stated on the card.
2) When less than 4 ships, they don't block movement. If you end your movement there, they will start a battle, but not block and start if less than 4.
3) Passive abilities happens when the condition is fulfilled. If it's a "trigger" ability, then you'd have to be involved.

I hope that helps Sebastian, and have a great day 🙂
Best regards Emil

NAW: Computer AI

I have been playing way too much "Slay the Spire" while waiting for feedback on Texas Revolution (very little) and hence the lack of posting.

In the meantime I have been looking for a new project. I thought I might do Demonlord from Dwarfstar/ Reaper but when I contacted Reaper about permission they indicated that they we're considering digital publication themselves and then nothing. So I'll take that as a no which is probably just as well as the game has movement classes and would require characterizing each hex side for multiple terrain types. And combat is done using a battle line system, so a lot of work for small game.

When I did Napoleon at Waterloo for DG I took a shot at creating a computer AI based on considering every possible move or attack and scoring them. This worked well for combat but not too surprisingly failed utterly for movement considering there may be 20+ units with a choice of 90+ hexes each. I think I can do better for movement by grouping units so only 3-10 units need to be consider at a time. Units would receive a basic order to either;
1) move to attack
2) move towards an objective
3) move to plug holes.

Attacks would be optimized by scoring every combination of units and attack positions for a particular group than moving on to the next group and finally repeating in different group orders. Units with orders 2 and 3 would be done together after all attacks have assigned.

But first I need to update the code. Currently I am in the process of porting the old Blitzbasic code into Blitzmax. In the last week (with a time out for StS) I have gotten the map and chits working and I am close to being done with movement.

Hi Wayne! Do you know if they corrected the typos on the cards that they showed during the KS? The "Pilgrams" comes to mind.

I don't recall typos, but I can't say for sure. I just checked my review video and at 2:30 you can see a card named "Armed Pilgrims" so no issues with that particular card, lol.

I printed out the print and play from the Kickstarter page, so we could test this out before deciding if we want to buy it or not.

Am I ok to use the final instructions found here on BGG? Are there any differences I should be aware of between that version and the final published version? I know visually the two boards look slightly different. I was wondering if that matters or not? We only want to play the light mode.

Thanks

A Year Of Gaming – Week 10: Words Words Words

by Ken Grazier

Word games are some of my favorite games because I am a word nerd. This week saw a few wordy games. Just remember your dictionary!

This article references the time between March 2nd and March 8th, 2020.

Plays
With illnesses going around – thankfully colds and such, nothing more serious – it’s been tough to get folks together to play games. Monday was the only day I played last week, but we got in some fun titles. Codenames: Duet is the best form of Codenames in my opinion, and I love the stresses and challenges built into the game. I think the original is solid, but Duet just makes it that much better. It also works really well for two players. On Tour hit table again, and despite doing decently well, I lost again. I do like this one a lot, and I wonder how the reprint and Europe versions will do. Paperback is always a favorite that offers quick, fulfilling spelling game play without the concern around a list of two letter words. Wordsy also got played, and I really enjoy how thinky but quick this spelling game is. If you’re not already familiar with the game, you can play along with the Wordsy Twitter Bot. However, it seems to have been down for a while at the time of this post.

Acquisitions
Nothing added to the board game collection this week, but given the health and being busy, I think that makes sense. I did put together a game I’m helping playtest, but I can’t talk about that one just yet.

Events
More gaming on Mondays. Immortals Inc. has asked me to run an event for Boss Monster. If you’re interested in participating, please let me know.
