By the way, the dad of a lifelong friend of mine from back in Rock Island (IL) was in the (also known as) "Diaper Division." He and Dennis went on a trip, late in the dad's life, and his dad found his foxhole there near or on Elsenborn Ridge, where he and his buddies had massacred the SS attacks, backed up by our hub-to-hub artillery batteries behind them.

I've put his dad in the Dedication for my Ardennes games, Tigers in the Ardennes, Ardennes Petite: A Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes 1944, Minigame, and Tiger Attack! The Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes 1944. TA! is a point-to-point game similar to Barbarossa Fast, and has publisher interest. Being single-sided (too), it is easily assembled - a good simple family&friends game.

There is no need for any upkeep after the enemy is dead because all stats are refreshed and topped off. Reset your ally’s stats and move on.

The action cards are shuffled after each encounter. If you blow through the entire action deck in an encounter (which I highly doubt...) shuffle and set up the deck again.

I have recently implemented a "nothing to install & quick to play" Web-based version of Battle for Moscow, with all the rules in a guided beginner-friendly user interface.

It is available at: https://oberlabs.com/b4m

It currently comes with both a solitaire/hotseat option playing on the same browser, and an AI opponent playing as Russia.
Each phase is saved automatically, so you can close your browser at any time, then simply return to the address above and choose "Continue Game" when you're back.

A big thank you to Alan Emrich for his encouragements and early review of this implementation. I hope some of you will enjoy this humble attempt at introducing more players to the wargaming hobby.

Feedback is very much welcome.

Thread: Founding Fathers:: Rules:: Question about resolving issues

Had an enjoyable first playthrough of this recently, but something I want to be sure about. After the president hands off an issue to the relevant office holder, is that office holder REQUIRED to resolve it? For instance, if they have enough ability, they HAVE to resolve.

If the statesman has enough influence to spend on their card to meet the difficulty threshold, do they have to spend that influence? Same with if the faction has influence available?

I assume so, I was just a little confused about the conditions for failure and if failure could be chosen as an option by the player controlling the statesman.

Thanks, and this game is so cooool

As the publisher having played both versions, I disagree with nick that they are 60% similar, the game feel is completely different, it's a lot heavier now and the randomness has (almost!) entirely gone. We also encourage players NOT to play the old PnP version (the game was originally and quickly designed for a competition with 0 development) as it is an old and self-published version we do not support, given its huge difference to the final published and developed version.

For paper alone, I use scissors; for cardboard, I use a utility knife very similar to the following wikipedia image. For very thin cardboard I sometimes use scissors as well.

"In Turn Order, each player may now reveal one or more of their Loyalty tokens, if they show the Faction symbol of a Troop fighting an opponent, Convert the targeted Troop."

I just wanted to confirm that a player not taking part in the current Combat may still reveal Loyalty tokens in order to Convert Troops currently "In Combat", as this sentence from the rulebook seems to say. TIA

Hi Smitty,

It's great that you are giving love to these microgames! I bought almost all of them and have played quite a few. They are quite playable and enjoyable! Maybe I should start posting my games.

Cheers!

Game Crafter link lets you order a physical version. The PnP files are linked in the post.

Unfortunately, Game Crafter does not have black d6 (WTF?) in stock for at least a month and that prevents ordering.

Thanks, that's great to hear!

No, they're not required to resolve it. Indeed, even if the Officer has more Ability than the Difficulty requires, they can choose not to solve it.

Huh, sorry to hear. If they have other colors, you could ask if they can swap maybe? I have never run into stock issues with them. The only dice color that matter are the larger green and blue ones.

Changing without realizing it

I feel like one’s sense of being a gamer is something that changes, sometimes so subtly that we only notice it when we look back. I don’t think of it as a constant upward climb but an ebb and flow. Trying to find a sense of balance as the rest of our lives change.

I’ve always been aware of this but you get reminders now and then.

I recently pulled out Elevenses for One. About three years ago, when I started seriously looking into both print-and-play games and solitaire games, it was a fairly important to me. Elevenses for One felt like a ‘real’ game to me. Despite all the changes my gaming habits had gone through, it reminded me I was still a gamer.

Now, having explored a lot more solitaire games and print-and-play games, going back to it, I was surprised at how light Elevenses for One felt to me. I mean, I always knew it was a super light game. And I still think of it as a gold standard PnP game and one I always recommend and one I have used as a gift.

I know that I have been playing tiny little PnP solitaire games that I can fit in the minutes. That’s been a big part of my hobby as of late. That’s what has really kept me in the hobby at times.

I just had’t realized the range and depth that I had been finding even in that tiny world. While it might work only be a minute fraction, I would say that games like Orchard or Food Chain Island are meaningfully deeper than Elevenses for One.

I didn’t think I had been growing at all but I guess I have been.

(I should dig Micro Rome back out and see how it feels now)

Does anyone know how is that called?

It's called a "Recessed board". See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rh4ztsP_DQ8

Also sometimes called a dual-layered board.

This is really cool, thanks. I did notice a few problems with losses taken by the attacker in Exchanges. In one case, a different unit took a loss than the one I selected (which may have been a correct result, since I picked a unit with less strength than was needed to take the loss). In other case, I should have lost 2 attacking units to make up the required loss, but the game only allowed eliminating one unit.
